According to the paperwork, the rental met the Healthy Homes Standards. The assessment had been completed. The property had passed. So why was I still freezing?
But what I was seeing inside the house told a different story.
As my inspection continued, I identified issues that, in my professional opinion, meant the property was not meeting the Healthy Homes Standards.
That raised another question.
If this happened to my rental, how many other tenants have been told their home “passed” when they’re still living in a cold, damp or draughty house?
I prepared a comprehensive Mainland Healthy Homes report, together with the supporting evidence needed for the property manager to take it seriously.
Within two weeks, the insulation had been upgraded, the draughts had been eliminated, and the ventilation issues had been resolved.
The difference was immediate. Our home became warmer, healthier and far more comfortable to live in.
That’s the moment I decided to start helping other tenants get the answers they deserve.
